This jersey was worn during a pivotal transitional period for the club. After legendary manager Brian Clough retired in 1993 following the club's relegation, his successor, Frank Clark, immediately guided Nottingham Forest back to the Premier League in the 1993/94 season.

Upon their return to the top flight in the 1994/95 season—the first year this jersey was officially worn—the club, nicknamed "The Tricky Trees," caused a major stir by finishing third in the Premier League, right behind Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United.
