The primary reason Nike designed this jersey with a combination of bright yellow on the body and navy blue on the sleeves was to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Arsenal's dramatic Premier League title win on May 26, 1989. On that occasion, Arsenal defeated Liverpool at Anfield thanks to a last-minute goal by Michael Thomas. The red stripe design running along the sleeves also adds a modern touch to that classic late-1980s style.
